VERNON - Citing increased budget pressures, the Rockville Public Library will close on Saturdays during July and August.

The private, non-profit facility, which is partially funded through town grants, will resume Saturday operations on Sept. 1, officials said.

Although the library has a sizeable endowment, officials have become increasingly reliant on town funding.

At the start of the 2006-07 budget process, the library was expected to receive $250,000. But after three failed attempts to pass a budget, the library has seen that amount drop by more than $22,000.

The library's summer hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. The book drop is open for the return of materials whenever the library is closed.
